What the Museum Covers
Florida Pioneer Museum’s collection brings together artifacts, household items, displays and ephemera from South Florida’s pioneer era, more than a century ago.
The museum’s history dates to 1962, when local organizers established it after Herbert S. Zim sought an organization to receive his Native American artifact collection. Today, its displays include items associated with early Native American inhabitants, including locally unearthed artifacts, as well as material about the Seminoles.
Other exhibits cover early South Dade settler tools and photographs, Henry Flagler’s Key West Extension, the Upper Keys and an early kitchen. The range of subjects connects everyday household history with the people and projects that shaped the area.
